Biography

Burl Ives, born in 1909 in Illinois, was a renowned American musician, singer, and actor. With a career spanning over six decades, Ives popularized traditional folk songs through his radio show The Wayfaring Stranger and achieved crossover success in country music with hits like "A Little Bitty Tear" and "Funny Way of Laughin'." He also made a significant impact in film, winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Big Country (1958). Ives is fondly remembered for his voice work as Sam the Snowman in the classic Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. He passed away on April 14, 1995, leaving a lasting legacy in both music and film.
