Do the words “turn and greet your neighbor” make your palms sweaty and your heart race? You’re not alone. The struggle is real. At the same time, we know Jesus says this whole “love your neighbor” thing is a pretty big deal. But what does that actually look like in real life? Well, it all starts in the heart.
This May, we’re inviting you to join us and take a step toward loving your neighbor, with the "KLRC Pray For Your Neighbor Experience!" It's 21 days of praying for our neighborhood! And thanks to our friends at Mission House Real Estate, your neighborhood might just be the one to receive some EXTRA love, with an exclusive block party on Saturday, May 24th! Simply fill out the entry form at the bottom of this page to let us know you want your neighborhood to be in the drawing!
Together, let’s take the next step to love our neighbors well, through the KLRC Pray For Your Neighbor Experience!
As we pray for our neighbors, you may find that something pretty amazing happens. Your heart will begin to care for them more deeply, and even begin to love them as Jesus does. One simple way to pray for our neighbors is using the acronym BLESS.
B – BODY – pray for their physical bodies; for health and safety
L – LABOR – pray for their work, school, finances
E – EMOTIONAL – pray for their emotional needs
S – SOCIAL – pray for their relationships with family and friends
S – SPIRITUAL – pray for their relationship with Jesus Christ
Examples:
Body – “Lord, help my neighbors to sleep in peace because You make them dwell in safety.” (Psa. 4:8).
Labor – “May Your favor rest upon my neighbors, Lord. Establish the work of their hands.” (Psa. 90:17).
Emotional – “Father, help our neighbors to live in peaceful, secure homes and to have undisturbed places of rest.” (Isa. 32:18). “Help them to know that the joy that comes from You is their strength.” (Neh. 8:10).
Social – “Lord, give my neighbors the ability to live in harmony with one another, and to be sympathetic, loving, compassionate and humble in their families and relationships.” (1 Pet. 3:8).
Spiritual – “Gracious God, let my neighbors see that You are the Way and the Truth and the Life. May they realize that no one can come to You except through Jesus Christ.” (John 14:6).
Prayer Starter:
Here's a prayer idea from Suzie Eller and the Prayer Starters Podcast: "Heavenly Father, help me to be a neighbor to someone who might need a kind word today. Help me to see them. To pause my busy life to let them know they are loved by you..."
(Make this prayer your own. Ask God to show you who might be on his heart!)
Part of the KLRC Pray For Your Neighbor Experience includes tangible acts of kindness. Of course there are many ways to be a good neighbor, yet there are a few ideas that are universal. Plus we'll be sharing some of our own personal ideas from the team here at KLRC as well!
1) Introduce Yourself
This may be the hardest one to do, but it's also the most beneficial. When neighbors know and trust each other, they can look out for one another. This simple act of courtesy can lay the foundation for a positive relationship. (Try downloading and printing our "Favorite Things In The Community" card to hand out!)
2) Offer to Help In Small Ways
Perhaps if a neighbor is going on vacation, you could offer to collect mail or care for pets when they are away.
3) Share Resources
If a neighbor is in need, perhaps you could lend them tools to help with home and yard projects.
Your favorite KLRC DJ's are participating in the Prayer For Your Neighbor Experience too! Over the course of the experience, we'll share how they're getting involved.
