There’s an image of Jesus I can’t get out of my mind. It’s found in Matthew 8.
Jesus has ministered all day long. Evening comes and more crowds press in. Then He and the disciples climb into a boat to sail to the other side of the lake. Jesus is so exhausted that he falls asleep. He remains asleep even as a terrifying storm sweeps in and the boat nearly sinks.
Jesus loved sacrificially. That’s evident all the way to the cross.
In John 13:34, Jesus commanded his followers to love the world like he loved them.
That’s our commandment too, but can I be honest?
The thought that I can love like Jesus seems impossible. But when we dig deeper, we discover that Jesus was never asking us to be Him.
Jesus showed up where love was needed. He was hands-on. He loved sacrificially.
That’s our invitation too.
When we love like Jesus, the world has the opportunity to see His love for themselves.
