Hopeless to Hopeful

What if…in the middle of your most intense struggles, challenges, or losses in life, someone stepped in to offer you a much-needed helping hand? This is exactly what three families in our community experienced because of your generosity this past Christmas Season. As the Director of Listening Engagement at KLRC, I had the privilege of meeting and interacting with these families and I feel like my life has been changed forever too!
The Guffey family was one of our “3 Christmas Wishes” families and I’d love to share more about their story with you. Amanda Guffey has always made her 4 children her number one priority. She worked hard as a single mom, right up until the moment she was diagnosed with stage 4 non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. And just like that, her entire world changed. They were forced to move and Amanda went from provider to bedridden; feeling hopeless and helpless. But God had a plan, and that plan was you, the KLRC Family!
So many donations came in for the Guffey family that we filled a 12-foot trailer and STILL needed to take a second trip later that week. When Amanda opened the door to greet us, I got my first look into their humble home. There was no furniture, no beds, no carpet, no TV... just a folding chair, a couple of mattresses, and a few scattered toys. But actually…this was simply an empty canvas just waiting to be painted with all your incredible gifts!
The very first thing we did was roll out a beautiful area rug to cover the bare floors and it instantly added warmth into the living room. Next, we brought in the new couch and recliner, as well as a giant oversized bean bag. Amanda's two little girls were so excited. They dove into the bean bag like it was a swimming pool and couldn't stop giggling and smiling.
Within just a few short minutes, their house had become a home. And little did they know, a day later, another generous donation of brand new beds would be arriving so they would no longer have to sleep on the floor. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Amanda gave me the biggest hug as hope-filled tears streamed down her face. She couldn’t believe this was happening for her and her family. She shared that her sons had been struggling with their faith during their hardship, but seeing what God has done for them has changed their hearts. For Amanda, this was the greatest miracle of all.
KLRC Family, I want to thank you for all you’ve done! I’m sure that generosity comes as second nature to you after 40 years with KLRC, but this is my first year on the team, and I’ve never experienced anything like it. I can’t wait to see what God does next!
