Gutsy – having a great deal of courage or nerve.
My best friend and I often remind each other to be gutsy. It’s because we are both naturally chickens who love to avoid hard things. As much as we’d like to be sweet and gentle all the time, sometimes life requires us being brave. Sometimes doing the right things means facing our fears and doing the hard thing.
So what’s a girl to do when she’d rather run for the hills than face her biggest fears? The first thing she needs to do is remember why she has it in her to be a gutsy girl.
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and will help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
Whew. I don’t know about you, but that’s the most reassuring thing I’ve heard in a long time. Yes, God asks us to be brave, but He never asks us to do it alone on in our own strength. Whatever we face these words are a reminder to hold on to the One who makes us strong for the battle.
Are you facing a battle today? Is there something scary or discouraging that is making you want to run and hide? Me too. Can I pray for us?
Father, thank You that you don’t ask us to fight alone. You always go before us. You always give us exactly what we need when we feel afraid, discouraged, or overwhelmed. Help me to remember that my strength comes from You. That in You I can be gutsy! Give me the courage I need to do the right thing, even if it’s the hard thing. Hold me up, Jesus. I can’t face this battle without You! Amen.
