Feeling the Love in Our Community

You never know when you might have an opportunity to help someone feel the love.

This summer, my husband was out working on a hot day, when he met Yolanda, who was driving by his job site in her electric wheelchair. In the course of their conversation, he learned that she currently had no air-conditioning in her house. That day he called me and asked, "Is KLRC still giving away air-conditioners?" And the answer, was yes!

I still remember when we pulled up to her house that next week, her door was open trying to get some relief from the Arkansas summer heat. When she came outside and we told her we were there to deliver a brand new window air-conditioner on behalf of KLRC, tears of gratitude and disbelief filled her eyes as she said, "You brought me an air-conditioner?" That day we learned Yolanda also suffers from dementia, and so she didn't remember her conversation with my husband the previous week.

After he took care of installing it for her, and we were about to leave, she grabbed my hand and said, "Are you gonna pray with me?" And so we did, reminding her that Jesus loved her. She may not remember our names, but my hope and prayer is that when she feels the relief of that cool air, she'll feel the love of Jesus.
