Jimmy Moore is a 65 yr old grandfather who suffered a stroke that lasted over 6 hours long on June 25 of this year. He had to be life-flighted from Tahlequah to Tulsa, Oklahoma to have surgery done within a matter of hours. The doctor said it was a miracle from God that Jimmy survived. At his age, most end up passing away or becoming partially or fully paralyzed. Jimmy still has trouble speaking at times especially when he is overwhelmed, but he is alive.
After his stroke, Jimmy had to retire early from his job of 31 yrs working in construction due to being considered a liability at work. He was the heavy equipment operator on the job sites. He was the bread winner of the family, so Kathy could stay and take care of the 3 kids.
Jimmy and Kathy have been raising their three grandkids, two girls and a boy, all under the age of 4. Within the last year, they were able to finish adopting all three kids. That alone was a very complicated process... including moving from one state to another, as well as constant doctor visits that began from the day each child was born.
Each of their grandchildren were born with methamphetamine and other drugs in their systems. This meant many sleepless nights, many days with working with therapists because the kids have/had delays. Jimmy and Kathy have fought hard for these kids to not end up in the system. They have already raised 7 children and are now completely starting over in their later years of age.
This family does not receive government assistance and continue to live solely on Jimmy's disability check each month. It’s very stressful for them especially now that it's becoming closer to Christmas, and not being able to buy gifts for the kids. They have always given to others in so many ways even if it's the last thing they have or last dime to their name. Jimmy and Kathy didn’t have to raise these children, but they didn’t want their grandkids to end up separated in foster care.
