If I were a silent voice inside your head helping you to build healthy relationships, you would hear about this:

“We Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB)

A friend asked me recently what I thought reflected health in any given relationship. That question led to a great discussion, and this is where it landed: I deeply desire for my relationship with God to be reflected in my relationships with His people. That represents health to me!

The biggest problem with this is the fact that we as humans are fickle and fallible. Have you noticed that when things are going well, it’s much easier to let the supernatural work of Jesus come through? But when someone causes you pain, yells at you, or provokes you, its easier to let the “natural” human-self come through. One allows God to be in control, but with the other man is in control.

For example, when someone provokes or triggers me, my response to them says more about me and my relationship to God than it says about them! I know, the first time I heard that I really had to think about it. My response to another human being is not based on their behavior but on where I am in my relationship with Jesus.

Therefore, my anchor, my security has to be Christ. It simply cannot be in a human being that is fickle and fallible. God is neither. God is never changing and rock solid! I must stay connected to The Vine in order to reflect the glory of the Lord as stated in 2 Corinthians 3:18. I guess you could call it a “boomerang kind of love” with God! Because if I am secure in my relationship with God, it comes back to me in the form of healthy relationships.

Tangible Take-Away:
Do your relationships with others reflect your relationship with God? Is your relationship with God Growing and healthy? Take inventory of the relationships in your life (have pen and paper ready to process) and ask God to show you next steps.
