A message from Sleep In Heavenly Peace:

Dear Volunteers,

After closely monitoring conditions this morning, we have made the difficult decision to cancel today's Community Bed Build.

This decision was not made lightly. One of Sleep in Heavenly Peace's core values is Protecting the Volunteer Experience. Our volunteers are the heart of this mission, and we are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful opportunity to serve. With steady rain expected throughout the event and limited covered workspace available, we do not believe we can deliver the quality experience our volunteers deserve.

While we're disappointed that we won't be building together today, we're incredibly grateful for every person who signed up and planned to spend their Saturday helping local children. Your willingness to serve is what makes this mission possible.

The good news is that today's 50 planned beds aren't going away they're simply being added to an even bigger goal. We will roll these beds into our Bunks Across America build on September 11-12, which is already shaping up to be our biggest and best community build yet.

If you're looking for another opportunity to get involved, we'd love to have you join us this summer for one of our upcoming bed delivery days. Our first opportunity is next Saturday, June 13. There is nothing quite like helping carry a bed into a child's home and seeing the impact of this mission firsthand.

At SHP, we fully believe that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional and mental support that a child needs. When it was brought to our attention that an estimated 3% of kids don't have a proper bed to sleep in, we stepped up and took initiative. We’re a national organization answering the call to a national problem. Thanks to the generous support of local donors from our NWA Gives fundraiser and a grant from the Rogers Downtown Rotary, we're excited to host this community bed build to meet the needs for 50 more kids right here in NWA! 

Purpose

Volunteering with SHP provides the opportunity to meet other wonderful volunteers within your community. Rubbing shoulders with complete strangers while building a bed for a child in need can turn into lifelong friendships. The project brings people closer together as we are all focused on the same goal… helping children Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

Role

As a volunteer, you will have a chance to learn how to use woodworking tools such as saws, drills, sanders and many other pieces of equipment. You will learn how to measure, level and make true wood cuts; how to sand and stain wood; and even get to see how branding a bed works!
