Eyes in the Storm

This morning I was supposed to get on a flight... to Florida. The conference I was scheduled to attend wisely cancelled as Florida residents and others along the east coast are bracing for the fury of now category 5 Hurricane Dorian. It's hard to even imagine the size and prowess of a storm like Dorian. We get these satellite images from space and it's mind-boggling to see a storm the size of a state (or bigger). You hear about 200 mile an hour winds and it's hard to fathom until you hear about the effects on people's homes and businesses. It's a scary, big problem for a lot of people, in a lot of ways. 

Our words of hope this week are from Jeremiah 32:17:

"O Sovereign LORD! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!"

I was reminded recently that when we look at God instead of our problems, the problems don't go away, but our perspective always seems to change. I don't know what you are facing this week; it may not be category 5 hurricane, but it sure may feel like it. God's not asking us to ignore the problem, or act like the effects may not be real, but He wants us to remember that He really is stronger, wiser, and the safest shelter in any storm. Ryan Stevenson sings that song about finding peace in the eye of the storm. Maybe that sweet spot of trust has more to do about the location of our vision than anything else.

This week, let's shift our eyes to the One who wants to captivate our hearts and minds... and watch our perspective change!
