My wife had a miscarriage and two years later we found ourselves expecting again. After a high risk term, she gave birth to Graysen (who was healthy and happy). Two weeks after his second birthday, Graysen went to get off the couch and fell like bricks and started crying uncontrollably! We could tell he was in serious pain.
Children's Northwest eventually found the cancer through MRI’s (which they had to put him to sleep for). Graysen had two biopsies in two days, and we were able to find out what type of cancer this was. LCH. They put him in a back brace for 14 weeks (this covered his whole upper torso). During that time the cancer spread to his arm. This devastated us. This is how hollow his bones were: Children's put him in an arm cast to prevent his arm from breaking. The back was still the worst spot as it not only was destroying his L3 spine, it also deteriorated most of his disk by the L3 vertebra. The doctor at that point told us he may never do any kind of labor, work, sports or anything physical in his life. He was in the arm cast for 12 weeks.
Two days before Thanksgiving 2023, we had to start Chemotherapy drugs with steroids, antibiotics, and vitamins. They told us they were doing surgery on him to install a chest port for the treatment. Graysen has been doing chemo for a year now, and we are finally almost done. We are unsure of what his future holds, or if this will spread even more. There is no cure for this. Most kids who have this turn out just fine, but with Graysen’s spreading to more than one spot we are unsure but have faith in Jesus. Graysen has a sensitive body and chemo has been rough on him. His blood work was always low to severe low and had to quarantine a lot. The doctors are hopeful for us and have been amazing through this process.
We don't know why this is happening but have faith Jesus is in control. We have been inspired through all of this to spread the Word of God. We want to show everyone that you CAN love Jesus and trust him no matter WHAT!
Please pray for us and Graysen as we finish treatment and march ahead to untreaded waters. Jesus heals and we believe Graysen is in good hands. It’s been hard to praise through this storm, but we REFUSE to quit and so does Graysen. This kid continues to fight and overcome every obstacle with a smile. Thank you for reading this and for your continued prayers.
P.S- Pray for ALL children with cancer and their families. This is something we wouldn’t wish on ANYONE! To see your baby in pain and know there is nothing you can do about it hurts in a way that's indescribable.
