After more than ten years of being a stay at home mom reentering the workforce was overwhelming to me. I remember the first time I sat down to create a resume. I couldn’t figure out if diaper changing, cooking 3 meals a day for 4 picky kids, and refereeing fighting toddlers went under "skills" or "strengths." In the end, I turned off the computer, locked myself in the bathroom and had a good cry. Even though I was a smart, competent woman I felt lost and overwhelmed.
Whether you’re like me, reentering the workforce after several years home with the kids, you’re seeking employment for the first time, or you’re just looking to change career paths, Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) can help.
Just a few weeks ago I had the chance to sit down with Chrystal Dixon at an event where dozens of women were receiving the final touches on being interview ready, new cloths, hair and makeup. For many women, a professional wardrobe is a hindrance to even feeling confident enough to ask for an interview. But thanks to CWJC’s connections with other non-profits and community leaders women now have access to the resources they need to succeed.
The ladies we met that day had already attended classes relevant to their career goals, they had learned computer skills, created resumes, sat through mock interviews and been mentored by another women in the workforce. They were excited and hopeful about their futures.
Christal shares the common purpose of CWJC, “Our goal is to bring women to Christ and improve their home and work lives. We are an interdenominational ministry that believes sisters in Christ, which may attend a variety of churches, can share in the outreach ministry of Christ together in our community.”
