We're having a virtual book club this summer! We'd love to have you join the conversation. You can find out more about the book here.
So I have to admit, I had tears filling my eyes as I finished the last chapter of No More Christian Nice Girl. This book has challenged me to "look at what's really behind the plastic, passive niceness that passes for Christianity in many women's lives, and then to boldly choose to be authentic instead".
That is my hearts cry... to boldly be authentic.
And girls, it takes guts to be authentic!
Yesterday I had a few minutes to myself and was able to go in the woods and be alone with God & my journal. I've been sensing change. And it's scary. But I know that God wants me to do it afraid! Ambrose Redmon said that "Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear." And what can be more important than obeying God?
When we become people pleasers instead of God pleasers we bow our knee to fear. Courage stands up and obeys God no matter the cost.
Here's the thing... there will always be people out there who try to force you to fit in their pre-conceived notions of what they think you should be. When we jump through hoops to try to please them we are wasting our time. On the other hand... there are also women out there who are lost, and broken, and hurting. And they desperately need someone to be brave enough to be authentic with them. To love them where they are. To share lessons from our own messy journeys. To let them know they're not alone.
I can spend my time and energy any way I choose. I can spend it trying to please people. Or I can spend it trying to please God.
Girls, we need each other. We need to hold each other hold up, cry together, rejoice together and encourage each other on this journey! We cannot do this alone. And we cannot do this unless we determine to be authentic!
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid,
do not be discouraged,
for the Lord your God will be with you
wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
